Can You Say Yugo?

For those who remember the splendor of the 70's and that vehicular hero of the financially oppressed; The Yugo. It made it's mark on America by providing cheap transportation at bargain prices. Unfortunately it also provided an unsafe at any speed and fix or repair daily (Ford) product that had a very short run at the American Motor legacy. It has provided quite the sport for anyone who wants to poke fun at a piss poor car.

Fast forward to the Obama Motor Company, formerly GM. We will have vehicles that get 60 miles to the gallon, provide self encasing air bags, and have negative carbon emissions. What you'll have is a car that no one wants to buy, mirror shatteringly ugly and carries 2.5 people. The best part of it will be the price tag. It will cost as much as a loaded Chevy Suburban and have none of the convenience. Once the government starts designing vehicles, it will make the AMC Pacer look like a Ferrari.

With both GM and Chrysler finished as viable car companies in the United States, it is up to Ford to re-establish themselves as the manufacturer of choice. They are not without their issues. They have had a stale design team since they introduced the Taurus back in the 80's. The only interesting thing they had for 20 years was the F150. Their latest vehicles like the Fusion and the Edge are at least interesting. Let's pray that they can avoid the government entrapment that has mummified GM and Chrysler and created companies that no one wants to touch let alone buy from. When the government gets into business, just hand them a shovel so they can start digging their own grave. It is a short walk from there to oblivion. Goodbye Pontiac and Saturn, you will be sorely missed.

Finally A Duet

In an unprecedented refrain from name calling and finger pointing, the DMB (that is drive by media or 'dumb' take your pick) has actually published a coherent article about former Vice President Dick Cheney. Mr. Cheney appeared on Face The Nation which if I read the article correctly is a Sunday morning liberal discussion group that sometimes invites conservatives into the mix for kicks and giggles. Mr. Cheney spent his time exposing professed Republican Colin Powell, a 1st Gulf War Hero and Secretary of State under Bush 2 as a liberal and want to be Democrat. Deny as he tries, Powell has demonstrated through his support of Obama for President that he is not part of the Republican landscape.

Vice President Cheney voiced his support for Rush Limbaugh as the voice of conservative America and the Republican party. He said that Powell's desire to bring Republicans to the center to encompass a greater majority of minority voters has done just the opposite. It has watered down the message of smaller government which is one of the core conservative beliefs. Conservatives win when they stick to their principles, not try to reach over the fence and be something they are not.

So, we have Rush and Mr. Cheney setting the truth in front of America. Somehow, it seems like a moth in a hurricane but at least, for once, we have an article that does not call Cheney the former CEO of a major corporation that is profiting from the Iraq War or the one pulling the strings for George Bush.

On a different note, I heard the following quip on Boston Legal yesterday. A Democrat is someone that finds a topic, spends all of their time sniping and grousing about how bad it is but never offers a solution. At least one that allows for those affected to be responsible for the outcome.

RNN Presents: Let's Change The News (Right News Network)

I have taken a news article from today and changed it to read the way it should. With the DBM showing complete disrespect for our previous President, it only makes sense to turn about their fair play. Click on the heading to read the actual article.

WASHINGTON – Mr Obama sent a heavily liberal Congress a budget in which he gloated about of cutting or killing some federal programs. Mr Obama likened it to how he thinks that of most Americans feel in difficult times. Never having been part of the tax paying work force, it is hard to imagine he has an inkling of how Americans actually feel. The trims amounted to only a tiny fraction of the pork filled new spending he has already implemented and he wants to spend more tax dollars and borrow the rest. Congress waited in anticipation to receive any new spending to provide their constituents with new ways to further milk actual tax payers.

Obama said his cuts would amount to a paltry $17 billion (that's with a b)— in a budget totaling well over $3 trillion (that's with a t) for the fiscal year. He's estimating the government's already swollen red ink will still be about $1.2 trillion, down only slightly from this year's all-time record.

Republicans pointed out that Obama's cuts were not nearly enough. "They appear to be a diversionary tactic — an effort to change the subject away from the unprecedented debt this budget heaps on future generations," said House Republican Leader John Boehner of Ohio.
