Can You Say Yugo?

For those who remember the splendor of the 70's and that vehicular hero of the financially oppressed; The Yugo. It made it's mark on America by providing cheap transportation at bargain prices. Unfortunately it also provided an unsafe at any speed and fix or repair daily (Ford) product that had a very short run at the American Motor legacy. It has provided quite the sport for anyone who wants to poke fun at a piss poor car.

Fast forward to the Obama Motor Company, formerly GM. We will have vehicles that get 60 miles to the gallon, provide self encasing air bags, and have negative carbon emissions. What you'll have is a car that no one wants to buy, mirror shatteringly ugly and carries 2.5 people. The best part of it will be the price tag. It will cost as much as a loaded Chevy Suburban and have none of the convenience. Once the government starts designing vehicles, it will make the AMC Pacer look like a Ferrari.

With both GM and Chrysler finished as viable car companies in the United States, it is up to Ford to re-establish themselves as the manufacturer of choice. They are not without their issues. They have had a stale design team since they introduced the Taurus back in the 80's. The only interesting thing they had for 20 years was the F150. Their latest vehicles like the Fusion and the Edge are at least interesting. Let's pray that they can avoid the government entrapment that has mummified GM and Chrysler and created companies that no one wants to touch let alone buy from. When the government gets into business, just hand them a shovel so they can start digging their own grave. It is a short walk from there to oblivion. Goodbye Pontiac and Saturn, you will be sorely missed.

Not Cool
