Failure Of Ronald Reagan Part 2

Today's conservatives revere Ronald Reagan. We look back to the President that followed the incompetent Jimmy Carter and anything would have been an improvement. But Uncle Ronny inspired us and sparked our imagination as to what we could do, not what could be done to us. He led us instead of using brute force to heave his agenda on us. He put us on a path that eventually brought about the end of the Soviet Union and the Cold War.

His failure was in not adequately preparing us for the aftermath of the Cold War. His vision was both pointed and hypnotic when it came to defeating the communist menace but without another direction to push our creative juices, we floundered. His follow up, George Bush, had neither his vision nor his cult of personality. With no leader to push ahead, the conservative movement stalled and retreated to its present form. With no one to focus our hate and loathing on, we had to find a new avenue for our aggressions. Now we have weather as our biggest issue. Yes, we are calling changes in the weather climate change and blaming ourselves if it rains or shines.

In the corporate world, there is usually someone being groomed to take the mantle of leadership when the one in charge steps down. Reagan should have been grooming someone to step in and grab the reins of conservatism. Instead we ended up with an ex-director of the CIA who was less than effective. He bumbled so badly that a governor from Arkansas became the President. In a promise to return to conservatism, we elected the son of the CIA director and through a fluke by some Islamic terrorists ended up with two terms from him. Again, not much to work with. Now we have the anti-Reagan in the office. Someone who wants to be a communist. In just 20 years, we have had a complete reversal.

There are conservatives out there. They dance around the fringe but no one has made the impact that would elevate them to Reagan status. Maybe Palin or Jindal can create enough energy to get elected. We need someone to return us to the direction our nation started with. A government that follows the Constitution instead of using it as a weapon to destroy the union.
